Progress and Business Meeting for Consortium Members
May 1, 2007
Minneapolis, MN

The simi-annual meeting for consortium members was held at the University of Minnesota in May 2007. At the meeting, members were updated on the progress made since the training session in October 2006. Testing and validation of the first generation Affymetrix microarray, current sequencing efforts, proteomics work, and improved annotation strategies were the highlights of the progress made in the past six months. Discussion of continued sequencing strategies, microarray development, and new research directions were also addressed by collaborators and participants. Plans for the next annual meeting and data analysis workshop this fall were also discussed.

CHO Consortium Welcomes Katie Wlaschin
March 2007

Katie Wlaschin has joined the Consortium for CHO Cell Line Genomics as a technical specialist. Her work in collaboration with the Bioprocessing Institute of Singapore provided much of the foundation for the formation of the Consortium. Her experiences and expertise will be an asset in directing future work and providing technical assistance to consortium members.

Training Workshop on Microarray Data Analysis
October 12-13, 2006

A workshop was held to provide cell culture professionals in member companies with the technical knowledge and tools required to fully utilize the power of transcriptome and proteome analysis. The workshop focused on the importance of using a synergetic approach including statistical analysis, bioinformatics, and knowledge of cellular physiology to extract the most information from DNA microarray and proteomic data. A hands-on workshop covered the fundamentals of microarray data analysis, with references to ways to assimilate analysis of proteomic data. The use of software and data mining to assist in development of physiological insight from transcriptome data was emphasized.

Workshop Lecture Topics:
Overview of Transcriptome Analysis
Application of Genomic Tools in Mammalian Cell Culture
Experimental Protocols
Microarray Experimental Design
Data Processing and Normalization
Differential Expression Analysis
Time Series Data Analysis
Pathway and Network Analysis
Pattern Recognition
Mining Microarray Data
